Working in New Costessey
The stretch along Dereham Road and the streets running off it — Gunton Lane, West End, down towards Longwater — is largely interwar and immediately post-war. Solid houses, generous plots, and heating systems that have been patched rather than replaced.

Cylinders and cold tanks still in place
A lot of these houses still run a cylinder in the airing cupboard and a tank in the loft. That is fine until the tank starts weeping through the ceiling below, which is how most people find out it was there.
Back boilers and capped-off gas
Some of the interwar houses had back boilers behind the fireplace. Where those have been abandoned rather than removed and certificated, it needs putting right properly before anything else is done.
Extensions on the original circuit
Rear extensions here are common and the radiators in them were often teed off the nearest pipe. The extension is cold, the rest of the house is fine, and no amount of bleeding fixes it.
