A straight swap
Same layout, new suite. The quickest and cheapest version, and often all a tired bathroom needs
Bath out, shower in
Wastes and floor levels are the real work here, not the shower itself
Full refit with a new layout
Moving the soil connection is what decides the cost. Worth settling at survey rather than mid-job
Adding an en suite
Needs a check the system can carry another outlet before anything else is decided
Weak or unpredictable shower
Usually pressure rather than the shower. Sometimes a pump, sometimes an unvented cylinder
Leak into the room below
Nearly always failed waterproofing behind tiles rather than the pipework. Tiles are not waterproof on their own
What does a bathroom fit include?
Strip out, first fix pipework and wastes, waterproofing, tiling, second fix, sealing and making good. The old suite goes with us and the room is left clean and usable
The waterproofing is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether the ceiling below is fine in five years. Tanking behind a shower is not optional and it is not a coat of paint — tiles and grout hold water out for a while and then they do not
You get a written fixed price after a survey. If moving the soil pipe or the floor turns out to be the expensive part, that is settled before anything is torn out rather than found halfway through
How long does a bathroom take?
A straight swap in the same layout is two to three days. A full refit with new tiling and a changed layout is usually one to two weeks depending on the room and the tiling
It is one engineer throughout rather than a rotation of trades, so nobody is waiting on somebody else to turn up. That is slower on paper than a four-man crew and considerably less likely to stall for a week in the middle
Why is my shower weak?
Usually the water pressure feeding it rather than the shower itself. A gravity-fed system with a tank in the loft gives you very little pressure upstairs, and a new shower head will not change that
The fix is either a pump or a change to a mains-pressure system with an unvented cylinder. AK Plumbing and Heating is G3 qualified, so the cylinder side is done in-house — that gets checked as part of the survey rather than sold to you afterwards
