Solid walls, nowhere to hide pipe
No cavity means chasing into solid brick or flint, or running surface pipe and boxing it in. It changes both the price and where things can sensibly go, so we work it out before quoting.
Outbuildings and river-valley frost
Properties down towards the water often have pipework running through unheated outbuildings or crawl spaces. That is what bursts in a hard frost. Lagging it in October costs a fraction of a January call-out.
Bathroom falls in old floors
Original joists, no room for a decent waste fall and a soil stack somewhere unhelpful. Most of the work in a period bathroom here is under the floor where nobody will ever see it.
